Creating a new inventory may seem quite a daunting task so here are some handy hints to make it easier
- Don’t expect to create the whole inventory in one session, it can take time. Remember the more accurate it is the more valuable it will be if you have to make an insurance claim.
- Add all the rooms in your home then add key items in each room, for example in a bedroom add the bed, wardrobe, dressing table etc
- Once you have the main items go through one room at a time adding all the other items
- Don’t forget to add books, CD’s, video games and consoles, clothes, toys, soft furnishings, bedding etc
- If you have a laptop add to your inventory in situ or make a paper list and add it later
- Get the family involved! If you have children get them to list the contents of their bedroom or if they are old enough they could even add items directly to your inventory
